A Jones for Rashida
Hot in The Social Network, funny on Parks and Rec, Rashida Jones swings both ways in her next role as a (yes) girl-on-girl-loving lawyer in Our Idiot Brother

In this summer's comedy Our Idiot Brother, there is a hot lesbian make-out scene between Rashida Jones and Zooey Deschanel. This is very likely to be the only fact you will remember from this article. There will be several more facts to come—in due course, we might touch upon Jones's Harvard degree, her volunteer work with Michelle Obama, her celebrity parents... But after a spoiler alert like that, the rest of this stuff is bound to read the way Charlie Brown's teacher talks. So perhaps this is a good time to slip in some caveats. To begin with, the make-out scene in question occurs at the family dinner table (not, alas, on the dinner table), and the table is filled with relatives, including one slightly panic-stricken mother. Most distractingly, Jones is wearing a pair of ginormous eyeglasses that look like something a Brooklyn graphic designer swiped off the Unabomber's face. And yet. Chalk it up to the limitless capacity for the male mind to block out distracting mise-en-scène, but the sequence is still pretty hot. For Jones, it was a personal milestone of another kind: "I feel like I've come a long way from my first job, when I had to get mouth-to-mouth resuscitation from Rip Torn."

In this age of Webby, Jezebel-y mud fights about pretty girls, funny girls, and who belongs inside that supposedly slender portion of the Venn diagram where they intersect, Jones is a rare consensus figure. She is tremendously undislikable. Partly that's because, at 35, she's been semifamous for only a few years, meaning she'd had the time to become an actual person first (this despite being the offspring of two very famous parents, Quincy Jones and Peggy Lipton). And partly because she has that gift of looking amusingly bemused or agreeably agitated, which comes in handy given the all-star comic ensembles in which she finds herself with staggering regularity. "A question I get asked a lot is 'What is it like to play the straight guy all the time?' And I'm totally okay with it," she says. "I'll never be the person doing a cartwheel and landing with my skirt over my head. That's just not who I am." Her job on Parks and Recreation, which just wrapped up a breakthrough third season, is to provide an occasionally flustered, frequently perplexed center of gravity for the local government lunatics in her orbit. "Every week," she says, "someone on that show will tickle me in a new and fun way. Wow, that sounds really bad. Please put that next to a topless picture of me in GQ." Done.

Following her appearance in The Social Network, Rashida Jones has updated her Hollywood status with choice roles in The Big Year and The Muppets this fall. But after cohosting the GLAAD Awards, the 35-year-old Parks and Recreation star hopes to add more gay fans to her rising profile by playing a lesbian lawyer opposite Zooey Deschanel in Our Idiot Brother, a dysfunctional family comedy in theaters August 26.

She also wore Stella McCartney at yesterday's Met Ball honoring Alexander McQueen (and co-hosted by McCartney). First impression: she looks like a bridesmaid!
I know big show-stopping gowns aren't her thing and I *do* like her signature laid-back style but this is a pretty uninspired choice. The Met Ball = The Fashion Oscars. Gorgeous color though.

More pics tomorrow...

... Elsewhere, Paul Rudd, Amy Poehler, Sean Penn, Scarlett Johansson, Newt Gingrich, Steve Buscemi, Lance Armstrong, Rashida Jones, Buzz Aldrin, Attorney General Eric Holder, Senator Scott Brown, Tara Subkoff, Michael Stipe, Michelle Trachtenberg, Sean Parker, Congressman Anthony Weiner, Andre Balazs, Gayle King, Will Forte, Dee Dee Myers, and Todd S. Purdum pivoted between the French ambassador’s magnificent home and the slightly chillier, though no less spectacular, grounds. Polychromatic lights illuminated the expansive gardens, and bushes of blooming azaleas bordered the pool.

By 3 a.m., the crowd had thinned considerably, but Rashida Jones, Fred Arminsen, John Legend, Andy Samberg, Bradley Cooper, Steve Buscemi, Jason Sudekis, and friends remained sitting in a circle on poolside couches. Seth Meyers bounded down the stone steps and greeted the group, which burst into applause upon his arrival. ...

Appearances: Obama Victory Fund 2012 Rally

4/21: Speaking at the Obama Victory Fund 2012 Kick-Off With The President And Jamie Foxx, a re-election fundraising rally at Sony Pictures Studios in Culver City.

A couple reports about the rally
Second fundraiser speech was much the same as the one last night. Some highlights and sightings: The audience shouted "Four more years! Four more years!" and President Obama joked, "Actually technically it’s more like five and a half."
Someone fainted during POTUS's remarks. "Give them some room," POTUS said, calling for the medics and saying the person probably just needed air or some juice.
POTUS was going on about the things he's gotten done when someone in the audience shouted, "We need your leadership." "I'm right here but I'm going to need yours as well," he replied.
He talked about how some Democrats are frustrated with him. He mimicked what some of them say, "I don't like that compromise with the Republicans. ... Health care took so long."
He joked about his age, which he has done regularly this entire trip, saying those Democrats are like, he's older and not so fresh. Earlier in the speech when he was remarking on his gray hair, someone shouted that gray was OK. "I’m gonna let Michelle know you said it’s OK," POTUS said. "Folks here in Hollywood can go gray for a part."
When he stopped speaking, "Your Love Is Lifting me Higher" started playing on the sound system and POTUS shook hands.
Dem official says before pool arrived Jamie Foxx emceed, Rashida Jones spoke, Jason Moraz performed and a choir from a public schoool in South LA sang.
Jamie Foxx and Rashida Jones were among a small group of VIPs that were standing in an area on the floor next to the stage. A couple White House staffers were mingling with them, including Jay Carney and Jon Favreau.

At the large rally for younger donors, a group dubbed Gen44, singers Jamie Foxx and Jason Mraz and actress Rashida Jones warmed up the 2,000 plus audience in Sony’s Studio 30.
The soundstage was used to film parts of "Spiderman 4," "Cast Away," "Men in Black 2," "Iron Man 2," Tim Burton's "Planet of the Apes," "The Ring," "The Dirty Dozen," "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button," and many of Esther Williams' films, Sony VP Jim Kennedy told reporters.
Obama entered to his signature theme from the band U2, “City of Blinding Light” and chants of “Four more years!” (Though Obama corrected them to say it was more like five and a half.)
He launched into what are now becoming very familiar themes in his stump speech: the progress made coming back from recession and the challenges ahead, such as comprehensive immigration reform, revamping energy policy, reducing the deficit and implementing ‘shared sacrifice.’
