Quoted: Rudd vs. Krasinski

The New York Daily News caught up with Rashida at the "Twelfth Night" performance in Central Park Thursday night. They asked her who was the better kisser - Paul Rudd or John Krasinski?

Rashida Jones kisses - and tells. When we approached the star during the opening of “Twelfth Night” in Central Park, the actress confided she prefers the smooches of former “I Love You, Man” co-star Paul Rudd to ex-boyfriend John Krasinski. “I’d definitely have to say Paul!” she enthused. “John’s great, but I’d still say Paul.” We wonder if John’s new girlfriend, Emily Blunt, would make the same choice?

Her friend 'Entertainment Lawyer', aka Enty from Crazy Days and Nights, did a post about it yesterday. He basically defends her by dissing the Daily News and trying to explain the whole Q&A situation.

Rashida Jones Doesn't Throw John Krasinski Under A Bus
So, the NY Daily News tried to pull a fast one on Rashida Jones and get her to throw ex-boyfriend John Krasinski under a bus. Rashida declined to do so because she is all class. Wow, that does sound a little kiss-ass-ish doesn't it? Oh, well, everyone knows I love her so it shouldn't come as a surprise. The Daily News caught up with er at Shakespeare In The Park and asked her who was the better kisser, Paul Rudd as her co-star or John Krasinski in real life? I know they asked the question in hopes that she would throw John under a bus. At least I hope that is why they asked it and not because the reporter couldn't come up with anything else. It is a pretty high school type question.

Add to this the fact she is dating a guy right now and it becomes even more awkward. I haven't checked, but I wouldn't be surprised if he was there with her that night. So, right there in front of the guy you are currently dating you get asked if your ex-boyfriend is a great kisser or not. That is a class move Daily News. For the record she did say that Paul Rudd was the better kisser and that she likes John just fine it just wasn't as good as Paul.

So, I think most of you would also probably agree with Rashida, at least in the who would you rather part of the hypothetical.

Movies: Celeste and Jesse Forever

Some news about Rashida's next film project came out yesterday: Celeste and Jesse Forever, which she co-wrote with Will McCormack and will star in, has been acquired by Overture Films.

Overture Acquires "Forever"
by Peter Knegt
Overture Films has announced today that it has acquired “Celeste and Jesse Forever,” a romantic comedy co-written by Rashida Jones and Will McCormack. Jones will also star in the film to be produced by Suzanne and Jennifer Todd of Team Todd. The story “focuses on a young couple in the midst of a divorce who attempt to maintain their friendship while pursuing new relationships.”

“Rashida is among the brightest and funniest young actresses today and we are delighted to be working with her,” Overture CEO Chris McGurk and COO Danny Rosett said in a statement. “The script she and Will have put together is witty and touching and with Team Todd in the mix, the project has great promise.”
Team Todd is behind the “Austin Powers” franchise and has also produced Julie Taymor’s “Across the Universe” and Christopher Nolan’s “Memento.” The company is currently in post-production on Tim Burton’s “Alice in Wonderland.”

“We are such big fans of both Rashida and Will and it is exciting to be working with them creatively,” Jennifer and Suzanne Todd said in a statement. “Rashida is proving she’s one to watch both in front of the camera and behind the scenes.”

Overture Ups Ante
As Overture Films lines up their 2009/2010 slate--hoping for a breakout--Wednesday they announced development of Celeste & Jesse Forever, a divorce rom-com co-written by and co-starring Rashida Jones (I Love You Man, Parks and Recreation) and Will McCormack (Must Love Dogs, Syriana). Team Todd (Austin Powers, Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland) is producing. (It's odd that Overture announced without a director in place.)

Loverboys: Jon Favreau

Two more articles from the weekend...

The first from People.com

News: How the Obamas Made Washington Hot!
By Karen J. Quan
Originally posted Sunday June 14, 2009 11:45 AM EDT

There's a new couple in the White House and seemingly overnight our nation's capital – a town known for filibusters, not fun – is suddenly a magnet for Hollywood starlets, reality TV shows and high-profile idealists wanting to get in on a little high-minded action. Here's a look at some of those beguiled by the Beltway:

Dating in the D.C.
After splitting from The Office nice guy John Krasinski, Parks & Recreation star Rashida Jones, 33, has been hanging with President Obama's 28-year-old speechwriter Jon Favreau. "It's not serious," a source reveals, but they are an item.

Article was x-posted at The Huffington Post: Starlets Dating Administration Members...

-----------------------------------------------
The second a link-heavy one from The Examiner

A&E: Rashida Jones and Obama speechwriter "not serious?"

Folks are trying to figure out what's really going on between Rashida Jones of NBC's "Parks & Recreation" and President Obama's 28-year-old heartthrob speechwriter Jon Favreau.

(Not this Jon Favreau, but this one.)

The two have been spending a substantial amount of time together since at least May 8, when "a tipster" for the Web site BestWeekEverTV supposedly spotted them hanging out at a bar near Georgetown and "attached at the hip all evening, until they starting making out with each other at the bar."

The next day, the actress was Favreau's date at the White House Correspondents' Dinner.

The pairing comes on the heels of Jones' breakup with actor John Krasinski, who played her boyfriend during a stint on NBC's "The Office" (He's now dating "The Devil Wears Prada" actress Emily Blunt.); and Favreau's apparent split with Maxim model Ali Campoverdi.

“For Rashida, her romance with Jon couldn’t have come at a better time," said another unnamed source to the National Enquirer. "She was miserable after breaking up with John. And it really hurt for her to see him dive into a love affair with Emily soon afterward.”

About a month after their WHCD date, Politico.com's Patrick Gavin reported that Jones and Favreau attended the June 1 launch party for Richard Wolffe's Obama book "Renegade" at Cafe Atlantico.

Today (June 14), People magazine posted a "Rashideau" update on its Web site quoting still another "unnamed source" who said the two are indeed an item, but "it's not serious."

Jones is the 33-year-old daughter of music mogul Quincy Jones and actress Peggy Lipton, best known for her role as Julie Barnes on TV's "The Mod Squad" (1968-1873). She most recently starred on the big screen in "I Love You Man."

In 2009, Favreau became the second youngest person ever to become the White House Director of Speechwriting. After graduating from the College of the Holy Cross as valedictorian, he was hired to collect talk radio news clips for John Kerry's Presidential campaign in 2004. There, the Winchester, Mass. native was eventually promoted to the role of Deputy Speechwriter. In 2005, he was hired as a speechwriter for then-Sen. Barack Obama on a referral from Robert Gibbs. When Obama decided to run for President, Favreau was right there on the campaign trail, putting himself in position for his historic appointment to the White House last November.

Misc: The Word X

Not much in The Word this week since Rashida's been laying low during her break...

COOLNESS

Clare Guerrero Vivier, a handbag designer from LA, posted her thank-you note from Rashida

UPDATE: Clare had second thoughts about sharing that personal note and has taken it down; she wanted to respect Rashida's privacy and maintain her own integrity by not using something like that for personal and/or financial gain. We think that's very admirable of her so we've taken it down too.
To those of you who saved a copy, please don't re-post it anywhere. Thanks guys!

Rashida talked up a Turks & Caicos resort in The One Group's press release

Business Wire: Hollywood's Hottest Flock to the Gansevoort Resort in Turks & Caicos
Hollywood has taken to the beaches and their first choice for fun and relaxation is the newly opened Gansevoort Turks & Caicos! The breathtakingly intimate resort, on the island of Providenciales, is an opulent escape from civilization located on 400 feet of the purest white sand in the Caribbean. The resort has already hosted Ellen Pompeo, Molly Sims, Rashida Jones, John Legend, Emmanuelle Chriqui and Haylie Duff, who threw a bachelorette party for Jenna Dewan at the resort’s playful beach club, Elisha Cuthbert and Dion Phaneuf, Jack Osbourne, Bethany Frankel and Will McCormack, with many more set to visit!...

“The Gansevoort Turks & Caicos is amazing,” claims Rashida Jones. “It was just the vacation I needed. Never in my life have I seen such crystal clear water!”

Me, Myself An Eye did an interesting post about interracial romances onscreen and black/mixed actors in Hollywood, citing Rashida, Thandie Newton, Zoe Saldana and Maya Rudolph as examples.

MMAE: Away Y'all Go
...Rashida Jones (daughter of Quincy), who notably played Jim's other love interest on The Office, had a role last year as the wife-to-be in I Love You, Man. She's played the girlfriend/wife opposite a White actor in a number of films and TV shows. (Yes, now you see where I am going.)...
...It seems like Hollywood is getting mighty comfortable with the casting of Black actresses opposite White males. In most of these films, however, the race of the woman is not discussed. And like most Black actors in non-Black films, the women come unencumbered by Black friends or family members...

Magazines: People (Misc. 1997-2009)

I was checking if that Rashida/Jon story was on People.com and found a whole bunch of articles from their archives. They're in chronological order from May 1997 to May 2009 -in the first one with her mom and sister she was still at Harvard!- plus better versions of the "Most Beautiful" 2007 and 2009 shots posted earlier.

(2009-01-19) "Jason & Rashida: New Couple?" Um, no.

She's also mentioned in this interview with Tobey Maguire from 2002: they were together for 2 and a half years and broke up in 2000.

Politico: VIDEO: D.C. toasts Wolffe's 'Renegade'
By PATRICK GAVIN | 6/2/09 3:24 PM EDT

The place to be Monday night was Cafe Atlantico, where Washingtonians of all stripes — lobbyists, journalists, politicos — toasted Richard Wolffe's new book, "Renegade," which takes readers behind the scenes of Barack Obama's run for president.

Seen: Richard Keil, Valerie Jarrett, Jon Favreau, Rashida Jones, Ezra Klein, John Rice (brother of Susan), Ashley Parker, Emily Heil, Jeff Zeleny, Ron Hutcheson, Jose Andres, Stuart Holliday. Arun Chaudhary, Ben LaBolt, Katie Johnson, Katy McCormick Lelyveld, Tommy Vietor, Melissa Winter, David Axelrod, Michele Norris, Gwen Ifill and Sam Kass.

Politico: Is Jon Favreau dating Rashida Jones? Or are they just good friends.
Patrick Gavin reports:

Seen last night at former Newsweeker turned PR man Richard Wolffe's book party for "Renegade" at Cafe Atlantico: Prez speechwriter Jon Favreau (it's his birthday today) with actress Rashida Jones.

The two have been spending a lot of time together - over WHCA weekend they seemed inseparable and even People magazine had a blurb on the two - and their budding relationship? - this week.

Last night just adds more fuel to the "they're dating" fire...

MOVIE NEWS?
*/Film is suggesting Rashida might be up for the lead in an upcoming comedy...

/Film: Jake Kasdan to Direct Bad Teacher
The Hollywood Reporter are reporting (from Hollywood, no less) that Jake Kasdan has signed on to direct Bad Teacher. The screenplay charted on the 2008 Blacklist and was penned by Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg, who also wrote the imminent Year One and are at work on the pending draft of Ghostbusters 3.

The Bad Teacher screenplay revolves around Elizabeth Halsey, a teacher with a cussin’ problem (er… no comment) who ends up in a bitter rivalry with her squeaky-clean colleague Amy Squirrel. Elizabeth is the sort of girl who wakes up at 3.40 in the afternoon, looks for breakfast in the fridge but finds only packets of ketchup, mustard and soy sauce so turns to her bong instead. I’m expecting that Rashida Jones will be front of the line for the role and that she’ll make hay with the truly hilarious bad behavior laid out on the page.

20-Nothings: An Open Letter to (that minx) Rashida Jones
...Rashish -- we have a problem sister friend --

You seem to be a little bit confused about what I like to call "the way things work up in this piece."

See you -- the bangin', bi-racial daughter of a famous black R&B
musician are supposed to engage in some variation of the following: be hot mess, get knocked up by someone with tatoos in the dumbest places, disappear for a few years then come back with a KMart kids clothing line.

You are not supposed to date the intellectual savior of Obamanation. John Favreau is ours.

You get the Hollywood people. The John Krasz-on-the-Office's, the Used-to-be-Zach-Slater's. You understand them and their overwhelming vanity. They understand you and your face...

*Magazine-loving blogger 'Girl With a Satchel' on I Love You, Man fashion and Rashida's appeal...

Girl With a Satchel: Pop: Crushing on Rashida Jones
...Coincidentally, while the subject matter is bromance, I developed a girl crush on the female lead, Rashida Jones, and her cute wardrobe of cardigans, shrunken tees, yellow blouses and jeans. Oh, and the wedding frock. If I were to get married again, I'd model it on hers.

Not since Audrey Tautou in Priceless and Kate Hudson in How To Lose a Guy in 10 Days have I been quite so influenced by the fashion aesthetic of a modern film. Mind you, I'm a simple jeans-and-tee girl (with a satchel) with a few surf-label tees to my name. I own one D&G frock: couture I am not.

But it was also Rashida's wholesome look (not starving!) and sunny smile that got me thinking, "This is a girl I could hang out with. She looks like fun. Let's go shopping!". How refreshing to see a new face on the rom-com scene whose name isn't Jennifer, Jessica or Kate...

*Part of a slideshow on showbiz dads and their offspring

Asylum: Guess the Famous Dad -- Lesser-Known Celebrity Nepotists
Rashida Jones:
She's the "Parks and Recreation" cutie who bewitched John Krasinksi on "The Office" (and in real life). Meanwhile, you can thank her pop for "Thriller" and pretty much every other Michael Jackson hit. No, it's not Tito Jackson.

Quincy Jones:
Yep, the magical combination of music maestro Quincy Jones and the supremely hot Peggy Lipton of "Twin Peaks" and "Mod Squad" fame produced the gorgeous and funny Rashida. Mostly known for acting these days, Rashida has sung on a few albums and penned a chapter of her pop's autobiography. And she probably has some crazy stories from the "Thriller" recording sessions.

*And finally, a brief mention in the Irish Independent's profile of Mark Ronson

Mark Ronson: Where's your head at?
FASHION ROCKS

Ronson is a snappy dresser and even caught the eye of designer Tommy Hilfiger, who asked Mark to model for him, alongside other celeb offspring. He may not have been allowed to keep the clothes, but he did get a phone number for Rashida Jones, daughter of producer Quincy, and the two were eventually engaged for a year.

*I don't think Rashida did any Hilfiger ads --only Kidada-- but they did model for Triple 5 Soul together
