Magazines: Elle (February 2011)

Two pages from the February issue of Elle:

Interview with Rashida and Amy Poehler

Elle imagining a Tina Chow-inspired makeover

Rashida Jones & Amy Poehler
When ELLE sat down with Amy Poehler and Rashida Jones to talk about their real life friendship vs. their TV friendship on Parks and Recreation, the duo spit out one comedic gem after the other. Below, the bits that didn’t make it into the book, but will still make you laugh.

On their on-screen friendship:
AP: It’s satisfying to have a female relationship on TV that isn’t like, when one leaves, the other one is rolling their eyes, like “What an idiot.” It was important to Rashida and I to create a story of why these two would actually become friends, otherwise Leslie just seems like a cartoon, and Ann just seems like she doesn’t care about anything. We worked hard to figure out what it would be about the two of them in this small town where they would find each other. And I just think Leslie has a crush on Ann. A friendship crush.
RJ: The feeling’s absolutely mutual. And it’s actually good representation of our life because I actually can’t get enough of Amy in real life.

What other friends they compare their friendship to:
AP: We need to think of a hip reference.
RJ: We’re like two of the three Jonas brothers!
AP: Yes, we’re two of the three Jonas Brothers.
RJ: Even they’re are old now! That was last year.
AP: Who’s Willow Smith’s daughter? That’s who I want to reference.

On fashion:
AP: I love to see when they’re like, you know what? This year it’s just all about long legs and fresh faces. It’s amazing. As opposed to last year, where it was like, thick waist…
RJ: And a big ass!

But not just any actors. Seth Rogen portrays the Beasties’ Michael “Mike D” Diamond, Elijah Wood embodies Adam “Ad-Rock” Horovitz and a trash-talking Danny McBride channels '80s-era Yauch via four-day growth of beard and sleazy leather jacket.

The trio rob a bodega, spray beer all over passersby on a New York-esque (read: Hollywood movie studio backlot) street and generally raise havoc wherever they go, terrorizing a Who’s Who of movie bigshots in the process: Susan Sarandon, Stanley Tucci, Jason Schwartzman, Ted Danson and Will Arnett among them -- but also Kirsten Dunst, Rashida Jones and Orlando Bloom (wearing a vintage Def Jam jacket in homage to the group's former record label). But the Beastie party mayhem doesn’t stop there. The “Beasties” are picked up by “metal chicks” portrayed by Chloe Sevigny and Maya Rudolph with whom they ingest whippets and drop liquid acid.

The whole, ahem, brouhaha culminates with a confrontation with none other than the “Beastie Boys from 25 years in the future”: Will Ferrell (as Ad-Rock), John C. Reilly (as Mike D) and a petulant Jack Black as MCA. A wild break dance contest turns into an actual pissing contest that is broken up by a trio of New York cops –the real Beastie Boys.

The film's director David Fincher did an interview with HitFix and talked a bit about Rashida and her role in the movie:
Some actors want to be noticed and some actors are perfectly happy to be part of something bigger. When you’re talking about putting an ensemble together and as much as you love Rashida Jones and this and that, the question is, "Are you going to be okay being an extra for fucking 12 days of shooting? I mean you are literally going to be handed a piece of paper and you’re going to tuck them into things and you’re going to write things on a fucking Post-It note. That’s what you’re doing. Are you okay with that?' You know? Because you want that person. You want that face. You want that voice when she finally speaks, you want somebody who’s a fucking Harvard graduate, who’s like… this is somebody. She’s a formidable actor.
