Misc: The Word XVIII

Big thanks to Jen for these old pics of Rashida and her dad. So cute!

November 21, 1987: U2 Party at Jane Fonda's Home in Beverly Hills, CA

April 8, 1988: American Soviet Film Initiative Gala at the Bel Age Hotel in Hollywood, CA

November 23, 1992: World premiere of 'The Bodyguard' at Mann Chinese Theater in Hollywood, CA

TV Guide has confirmed Rashida will be reprising her role as Karen Fillipelli in an upcoming episode of The Office. Click here for more info about the February 17th episode.

Some info about her appearance in Fight For Your Right Revisited:
Rashida is one of several celebrity cameos; she gets hit on by the Boys and says "You wish, turkeys!"
--A Guide to Every Celebrity Cameo in Fight for Your Right Revisited, NY Mag

But not just any actors. Seth Rogen portrays the Beasties’ Michael “Mike D” Diamond, Elijah Wood embodies Adam “Ad-Rock” Horovitz and a trash-talking Danny McBride channels '80s-era Yauch via four-day growth of beard and sleazy leather jacket.

The trio rob a bodega, spray beer all over passersby on a New York-esque (read: Hollywood movie studio backlot) street and generally raise havoc wherever they go, terrorizing a Who’s Who of movie bigshots in the process: Susan Sarandon, Stanley Tucci, Jason Schwartzman, Ted Danson and Will Arnett among them -- but also Kirsten Dunst, Rashida Jones and Orlando Bloom (wearing a vintage Def Jam jacket in homage to the group's former record label). But the Beastie party mayhem doesn’t stop there. The “Beasties” are picked up by “metal chicks” portrayed by Chloe Sevigny and Maya Rudolph with whom they ingest whippets and drop liquid acid.

The whole, ahem, brouhaha culminates with a confrontation with none other than the “Beastie Boys from 25 years in the future”: Will Ferrell (as Ad-Rock), John C. Reilly (as Mike D) and a petulant Jack Black as MCA. A wild break dance contest turns into an actual pissing contest that is broken up by a trio of New York cops –the real Beastie Boys.

The Big Year will be in theaters nationwide October 14th

indie Monogamy in select cities on March 11

Updates and images...

The Social Network won four awards from the National Board of Review (Best Film, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Actor). The actual award ceremony will be hosted by Meredith Vieira on January 11, 2011 at Cipriani's 42nd St. in New York City. Rashida of course plays Marylin Delpy, a young lawyer on Zuckerberg's deposition team, in the film.

Monogamy has been nominated for an Independent Spirit Award in the Best First Screenplay category. The film was written by Dana Adam Shapiro (also director) and Evan M. Weiner, with Rashida and Chris Messina starring as Brooklyn couple Nat and Theo. Monogamy has been screening at select film festivals in America and Europe and will be released in theaters in 2011. The Indie Spirit Awards will be hosted by Joel McHale on February 26, 2011.

My Idiot Brother will premiere at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival. The film has been selected in the Premieres section, which runs January 20-30, 2011.
Director: Jesse Peretz; Screenwriters: Evgenia Peretz and David Schisgall
Cast: Paul Rudd, Elizabeth Banks, Zooey Deschanel, Emily Mortimer, Steve Coogan, Hugh Dancy, Rashida Jones, Kathryn Hahn, Shirley Knight, TJ Miller, Janet Montgomery and Adam Scott
Official synposis:

Ned (Rudd) is an idealist. His three sisters (Banks, Deschanel, Mortimer) are ambitious. His mother (Knight) is overbearing. Ned crashes at each of their homes, in succession, and brings truth, happiness and a sunny disposition into their lives. In other words, he wreaks havoc.
Ned Rochlin (Rudd) looks for the good in every situation and in everyone, which often puts him at odds with the world around him – especially his family. Upon being released from jail for selling pot, Ned turns to his oldest sister, Liz (Mortimer), a high-strung mother of two for a place to stay and a job helping to take care of her 7 year old son River, but his version of what’s fun for kids doesn’t fit with his sister’s carefully crafted child- rearing program. After upsetting Liz’s life, Ned relies on middle sister Miranda (Banks), a career-driven journalist, for a place to crash. He quickly makes a mess of Liz’s big break and shakes up her carefully compartmentalized love life. He is then forced upon his youngest sister, Natalie (Deschanel), whose wild-child past threatens to ruin her happy existence.
Banks, Deschanel and Mortimer co-star as the three sisters whose lives are hilariously disrupted by their well-meaning brother (Rudd). Banks portrays Miranda, the career-driven single sister who is about to get her big break in journalism after spending years writing about accessories at a fashion magazine; Deschanel portrays Natalie, the artistic hipster, a bisexual who’s flakiness and lies are getting in the way of moving forward with her caring, responsible girlfriend Cindy (Jones), who is looking to move the relationship towards a more committed place and; Mortimer portrays Liz, the Park Slope mom who’s too worried about having the perfect life and children to notice that her marriage is falling apart. Coogan portrays Dylan Byng, a self-righteous documentary filmmaker, married to Liz (Mortimer). The two live a supposedly idyllic life in Park Slope, Brooklyn with their young children, River and Echo. Scott portrays Jeremy, Miranda’s(Banks) upstairs neighbor. Dancy portrays Christian, a pretentious painter friend of Natalie’s (Deschanel) who tries to help Ned grow as a person by showing him another path; Hahn plays Janet, Ned’s (Rudd) ex-girlfriend who, out of spite, is keeping him from reuniting with his beloved dog Willie Nelson; Knight portrays Ilene, Ned’s overbearing and over-nurturing mother, who would be overjoyed if her son moved back home and; Montgomery portrays Arabella, a controversial British aristocrat that Miranda (Banks) is profiling for her magazine, a piece that could provide Miranda with the big break she has looking for.

Paul Rudd as Ned (!)

The Muppets
Walt Disney Studios have brought the release date forward to 23 November 2011 (Thanksgiving weekend) instead of Christmas Day. They are also using new title 'The Muppets Movie' over earlier reports of 'The Greatest Muppets Movie Ever Made' (my fave) and 'The Muppets'.

Vanity Fair cover?
The annual Vanity Fair Hollywood Issue is being shot soon and Rashida is rumored to be on the (inside) cover. Pretty exciting!

WWD.com: As for Vanity Fair’s Young Hollywood issue in March, sources said the magazine will shoot the cover next week and among those said to be in the running to be included are Natalie Portman, Ryan Reynolds and James Franco. Potential candidates for the inside cover are said to include Lawrence, Rashida Jones, Paula Patton, Andrew Garfield and Noomi Rapace, who played the lead in the original version of “The Girl in the Dragon Tattoo.” The theme is said to be along the lines of Thirties Shanghai. The list is being altered daily, so the lineup could change, noted one source.

Some bits & pieces from around the web...

INTERVIEW
(RADIO)
Rashida also did a radio interview on Elliot In The Morning yesterday. Topics included:
-How Parks and Recreation has evolved since season one
-What the set is like working with such talented comedians
-How she joined the show and was 'on hold' with NBC for months beforehand
-and, sneaking in a personal question, how often she visits her boyfriend in Washington D.C. (meaning Jon Favreau)

OTHER WORKS
Nunzio DeFilippis and Christina Weir, who are collaborating with Rashida on Frenemy of the State, have an official website. [Link: weirdefilippis.com] They have posted a brief note about the series, the Universal and Imagine deal and how they came to work with her at Oni Press.

...Rashida Jones came to Oni with an idea - "what if Paris Hilton was recruited by the CIA?" To be fair, she was describing a Paris Hilton-esque celebrity, not Paris herself.
Oni put us in touch with Rashida and we all talked about her idea, and together we created FRENEMY OF THE STATE. It's launching as a miniseries from Oni in the spring. The mini is the first of what will likely be many miniseries...

RUMORS
eonline.com's Ted Casablanca posted another denial of the Rashida and John Mayer story that came out last weekend. It's from a friend of Mayer's, and Casablanca says they have each had their friends and reps deny the rumor so they probably are just friends. He adds that most of John Mayer's fame, at least in celebrity terms, is really based on the famous women he is always being linked to. Sounds like he's not a fan of his.

INTERVIEW (Parks and Recreation)
Rashida and Chris Pratt did an interview with BuzzSugar about the show and Ann and Andy's relationship.
  • Rashida on the possibility of Ann and Andy getting back together: You know, I don't think it's an impossibility. I think there's still love in Ann's heart for Andy. I think so much would have to change for him to be OK with her. But I don't think it's an impossibility.
  • Chris on whether Andy will get a job or home: Yeah, the writers have found a nice way for Andy to get out of the pit and get a job and start sort of working his way up into independence.

  • Rashida on whether she likes Ann and Andy better together or apart: I think there's a lot of comedy both ways. I mean, I like this particular paradigm; I think it's really funny, because I just think Chris gets to shine a lot here and do something with something that could potentially seem really kind of cartoony and big which is like him, you know — showing up places and pretending to be casual about seeing me and all that. But he manages to make it kind of realistic and really sweet. So I like this dynamic for now.
  • Chris on whether Andy will start dating: I think that Andy's undying devotion toward Ann is one of the only things that sort of redeems him, so I hope not. I hope that he just keeps pining after Ann for 10 seasons to come. That would be the best for me.
  • Rashida on what Chris wears when he's naked on the show: They have those really unappealing little dance belts that were uncomfortable for Chris Pratt.
  • Chris on the nude scenes: Yeah, let's just say there was a dance belt included and it was uncomfortable. They kind of just are these little things that cover up your junk, but it was almost as if I was wearing nothing at all. Yeah.
  • Rashida on the show clicking more in the second season: It just takes time. I think for the actors, for the writers, for the audience, you just need some time to settle into what the characters actually are, and what's funny about their dynamics. And I'm super grateful that people gave us a shot to get there but I definitely think it takes about 10 episodes to even know what anything is, you know? I mean, you watch some early Seinfeld, you watch some early Sex and the City, it's nothing like the show turned out to be; the things that people loved about that show did not exist at the beginning of that show, you know.
  • Chris on the same: I've noticed that, as a fan of the show, I've seen it get better and better, and working on it I've noticed the scripts coming down the pipes have gotten better, but it kind of goes back to what Rashida said: it takes time for everybody. And I think it's just a matter of finding the sensibilities to all the characters and starting with Amy, you know; I think a lot of people compared Steve Carell to Ricky Gervais from The Office. But he has a different style of comedy, and maybe they were writing for Steve the way they did for Ricky Gervais. And maybe in the beginning, they were writing for Amy the way that they wrote for Steve Carell, but her comedic sensibility is a little different. Maybe it's not that funny to watch her be uncomfortable the way it is with Steve Carell, but it's so goddamned endearing when she smiles. And you see her and when she's enjoying herself, so is the audience. And you see her doing that a lot more now; kind of just becoming comfortable in who she is, and like the episode with the beauty pageant, she's standing up for women's rights. You're seeing more dimensions of her. And maybe it's always been who they've envisioned her to be, or maybe they're figuring it out, but I sure like Leslie a lot more in the second season. I just enjoy watching her more and I think that's starting to happen with all the characters.

The Word: Rashida is NOT dating John Mayer

So yesterday HollyScoop ran an item saying Rashida is dating John Mayer. It was based on a pretty outlandish story, IMHO, about a supposed romantic date at the Chateau Marmont, during which Mayer borrowed some guy's guitar and serenaded her in front of everyone. Everyone including Paul Rudd and Jason Segel, who led all the other diners in wildly cheering them on.

Thankfully, the story is not true and they are not dating.

This morning GossipCop relayed a message from Rashida's rep:
An “exclusive” from the generally good Hollyscoop announced, “John Mayer Dating Actress Rashida Jones,” and went on to note that on Friday night the musician “found himself new prey and he’s going to extremes to impress her.”

According to the blog, Mayer and Jones were “on a romantic date” at the Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles, and at one point the “No Such Thing” singer “took the guitar from someone who was performing… at the Chateau and performed an impromptu performance for Rashida.”

Well, John Mayer did NOT have a “romantic” (or any type of) date with Rashida Jones. “She was having dinner with friends – totally independent of him,” her rep told Gossip Cop. The rep for the “Parks and Recreation Star” added, “He came over to the table she was at with her friends, said hello to everyone, [and] asked if he could play the guitar that her friends were already playing.” Mayer’s “performance was not directed at anyone,” including Jones, the daughter of music legend Quincy Jones.

I think it's funny that Rashida, who doesn't normally discuss her personal life at all, was so quick to deny dating John Mayer! :D

Misc: The Word XIII

Not much to post lately! According to Knope Knows, filming of Parks and Recreation Season 2 has started and besides that she's been laying low.

I Love You, Man came out on DVD and Blu-Ray this past week. Somebody has posted the gag reel on YouTube...

Part 2 is here

INTERVIEW
She did an interview with IGN to promote the release:
Jones on Being in Love
IGN: Judging by the gag reel on this DVD, you guys look like you had a good time on the set.

Jones: Yeah, it kind of set the bar pretty high for a standard of fun while working. Which, I guess, is a good thing. Maybe it's not a good thing in the long run, but at the time it's literally the most fun I've ever had on a shoot ever. There were days when I wasn't working when I would go to set to hang out.
...
IGN: It does seem you're doing a lot of straight-women roles these days.

Jones: Yeah. Parks and Recreation is my third consecutive job like that. The first being The Office and then I Love You, Man. But the nice thing is that I do truly believe there's got to be a certain equilibrium in comedy. And if you're watching a movie and you're responding to the outlandish character, you're really seeing the movie through the eyes of the straight person. So hopefully, if I'm doing my job correctly, everybody's laughing. And maybe people aren't necessarily thinking I'm the funniest one, which is totally fine. But I do think there's a certain essential need to have that person. ... And listen, it's nice for me because it's very close to who I am. I have a lot of funny friends and I get to participate in the comedy with them, but I'm not over-the-top or whatever. One day it might be nice to do something where I'm just balls to the wall, just crazy.

Business Wire: Hollywood's Hottest Flock to the Gansevoort Resort in Turks & Caicos
Hollywood has taken to the beaches and their first choice for fun and relaxation is the newly opened Gansevoort Turks & Caicos! The breathtakingly intimate resort, on the island of Providenciales, is an opulent escape from civilization located on 400 feet of the purest white sand in the Caribbean. The resort has already hosted Ellen Pompeo, Molly Sims, Rashida Jones, John Legend, Emmanuelle Chriqui and Haylie Duff, who threw a bachelorette party for Jenna Dewan at the resort’s playful beach club, Elisha Cuthbert and Dion Phaneuf, Jack Osbourne, Bethany Frankel and Will McCormack, with many more set to visit!...
